Do You Qualify for Medical Marijuana?
Colorado Amendment 20 was passed by voters in 2000. This amendment approves the use of medical marijuana as a safe and effective medicine for people diagnosed with or currently undergoing treatment for the following debilitating medical conditions:
Cancer Glaucoma HIV/AIDS
Or – diagnosed with a medical condition / or currently undergoing treatment, that produces the following symptoms
Cachexia- Physical wasting with weight loss and muscle loss
Severe pain – Including migraines, back pain, accident recovery, post-operative pain, gout, neuropathy, TMJ, arthritis, and many more.
Severe nausea – Including as a side-effect from medications such as anti-depressants, anti-anxiety meds, and others.
Seizures – Including epilepsy
Muscle spasms – Including post-accident spasms, and multiple sclerosis
Other medical conditions are being considered for approval by the state health agency.
* Colorado Amendment 20 permits possession of up to 2 ounces and cultivation of up to 6 marijuana plants for medical use by individuals who have a valid card issued by the Colorado Medical Marijuana Registry.
* Exempts patients from all civil and criminal marijuana penalties in the state of Colorado. Patients should note that federal laws still apply in many areas outside of Colorado. Individuals are subject to the laws of other states if they leave the state of Colorado. Laws in other states may make it illegal to possess any amount of marijuana.
* Tasks state health agency with establishing a registry of such patients and issuing cards to them and to their primary caregivers.
* Allows children access to medical marijuana with parents’ permission.
* Invalidates federal Food and Drug Administration regulations that govern approval of new medications, federal drug-control laws, and international drug-control treaties. However, federal law and international treaties prevail over state law.
